Lots of black

This week I rewove the red on red pieces onto black. I like it. At last.

I also wove a circle on black which I REALLY like.

The photography is not the best lighting. I finished it last night and have been out all day so just took it now at dusk with a standup light blaring on it.

I've done other circles but like this one above the best.

I've also done lots of Yupo experimenting. Next time.

Might not get around to many blogs this week as we leave tomorrow for England for my daughters wedding. We love the groom but I do wish he was an Australian not a very English English man.

I'm English my self. After my dad died I sighed with relief that I wouldn't have to make that trip again. But I have. Last year to meet the grand daughter and now for the wedding. Safia was two months when we met her. Look at her now!! Eleven and a half months. It will be worth it.

Colour change

I didn't like the red on red I showed last week so I painted new canvas and  rewove it. I think I'll put the red through a black canvas.
Here is the new red. I tried taking close ups of some of the little pictures but they are too close up!

I had a light shade marathon this week. Such fun. Sold my first one yesterday morning at a networking breakfast I took four. My photographer friend took this pic. You really can only photograh one at a time to make them look like they look with the light on.

This is what my house looks like now with many made and only one sold!

View from my office nook. (yes, I'm untidy!) The pink lampshade bottom left is one I made before but way way too much time to do and doesn't look that good.

Dining room side. Another of my woven pictures on the wall. Lots not right with it. Happily learning all the time.
And finally - Someone a couple of weeks ago mention Yupo paper, Having never heard of it I researched it and found our local art shop sells big sheets of it. So I bought some and painted on it last night. I LIKE IT, Next step - by next week - cut and weave.

The ones on the left are 'undercoat' then laying the paint then the finished thing. Know what to do next time.!

Trying colour backgrounds

The weaving works very well on a white canvas but...I want more. More colour always. So I have tried two different things. First, the blue on purple. I've had these blue bits hanging around for weeks. Never sure about them because they are so pale = wishy washy in my world!

The other day I thought "right purple background is what they need". I used rice paper on the canvas then painted it purple then ...well what often happens with me I DID TOO MUCH. I don't think the splashes of iridescent work. I tried painting over them again and its settled them a little bit. I tweaked the picture a bit in Picasa so it looks brighter. Cheating I know!

I have also been trying red on red. Also not so great. Once again I DID TOO MUCH to the base. I dribbled interference on the red and ended up doing far too much and it looked chaotic and busy so I've painted two different reds over them and the varnished the red cos it looked so flat. Red is a difficult colour to photograph! I still think it needs something but not sure what. Open to suggestions.

Meanwhile I have set up an Etsy shop for the lamp shades. I have 7 waiting to be painted and am experimenting with something other than rice paper. Partly cos I can't find any sellers in Australia and have had to go back to my NZ supplier and get it shipped over, via a friend, from there.

Thanks for dropping by and commenting. xxx Rosie
