I forgot to put this blog up on
Paint Party Friday last week. I took last Thursday off to finish this painting cos I was so keen to see how it was going to work out. Unfortunately not too well. I painted layers and layers of paint with strips of very narrow masking tape in between. The tape didn't come off cleanly, paint had snuck underneath. It ripped some of the top paint off and it looks like "tartan on acid" at least that is how Terry described it! Shame cos its a good way for me to paint now that I am not having focussed painting time - just layer after layer of colour. Although I don't really like the way this one worked out I am doing another cos its such a great way to paint now and then. I have painted over the top of the moonlight with black tree I made for the exhibition. I will show a before and after when its done!
The other thing I did was a butterfly for the
Butterfly Effect - see my side bar - with oil pastels. Haven't used them like that for a couple of years. Its also not great but then I am not after great at the moment, just doing!
This week I have been playing/doodling with colour pastels and pencils and my always-in-love-with metallics and interference paints. You can kinda see the shine on the top picture.
So, lets hope I get this up tomorrow. I wont get round a lot of other
PPF as I am away all day Saturday, and, it's got so large.
I like your acid tartan, looks very complicated to paint, but the result is great! Valerie
ReplyDeleteI also like the tartan on acid! I think it is interesting and could brighten up many places!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the ladies on your acid tartan. Very interesting. Love your butterfly. Very nice. Happy PPF! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeletewonderful to see what you have been creating. The top one is quite dynamic.
ReplyDeleteI just love the colours in your finished piece. It must have taken you ages and oodles of masking tape to create such a great piece. Your butterfly is very colourful too. Happy PPF.
ReplyDeleteYour work is full of fresh bright colours which I always love and I kind of like that acid tartan piece... i would happily live with it as it is xx
ReplyDeletei actually think the tartan on acid is fabulous! it really looks 3 dimensional as if it is lots and lots of tautly pulled coloured string (do you remember those 'string and nails' pictures from the 70s-my folks had one of a ship?! well it makes me think of those!) i love it.
ReplyDeleteYou sound supa-busy! The tartan piece is my fav :) could be my Scottish heritage but I think it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I love the stripes! I can't tell where the bleeds are so no worries. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat experimenting. I love to just try things - I often put them away for weeks then pull them out to make something different from them. You are having a creative stretch and that can only be a good thing!
ReplyDeleteLove the bright colours and the stripes. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteRosie these are all beautiful, but the taped line is soooooooo spectacular, I LOVE it!!!! I like how the paint pokes out at the sides, the whole thing has so much depth, I could just stair at it and get lost in it's adventure! Wonderful fun!!! Deb
ReplyDeleteYour painting looks like that game Pick Up Sticks, which I always loved.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are cranking out the "experiments", sometimes that's when the best things happen.
I love the tartan...It looks so dimensional! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes PPF has gotten HUGE! I'm at the point where I go visit all the people I "know" first and then get to the others as best I can, 'cause I usually don't have time to get to everyone anymore;)
ReplyDeleteI also totally agree with you that sometimes the most important thing is the ACT of creating- what you make isn't always relevant. As a fellow busy woman, I GET that! I like everything you did, but I LOVE your doodles! I'm finding myself really inspired to do a project with my students based on this- I LOVE it!
Happy PPF,
Stephanie
Love them all ! Well done ~ Rather than masking tape ~ try liquid masket for the thin lines ~ you might like it ~thanks, namaste, Carol (Share the Creative Journey) Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteFun pieces! I really like the "tartan"! I thought it was strings - so well captured!
ReplyDeletelove how bright and cheery these are. and the doodle reminds me of a monoprint I made... it was one of the easiest prints ever and yet it remains my absolute favorite!!
ReplyDeletewonderful, so vibrant!
ReplyDeleteLove them all, too! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous oil pastel butterfly using complementary colors!
Happy PPF!!

ReplyDeleteinteresting effect with the masking tape though. Love your pastel work!
ReplyDeleteSo much wonderfully creative and colorful fun!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried painters tape? I do like the look. Oh My, I've never heard of interference paint. I do like the butterfly and the pastels. Thank you for sharing your techniques. Blessings, Janet PPF
ReplyDeleteThe Butterfly Effect sounds like such amazing project to take part in. Wonderful job. :)
ReplyDeleteyou've been busy! the tartan looks like colored yarn on a board. so colorful, i like it. and i've also been planning to join the butterfly project. thanks for reminding me about it. thanks for sharing!

I think your masking tape painting is very cool. If you don't like it, you can always add more until you do. I made my butterfly last week too! Yours is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVery lovely pieces indeed and cool idea using masking tape! I really love that butterfly! :0)
ReplyDeleteHello, Rosie! Not sure how I found my way here, but glad I did! The tape painting is wonderfully fun. And love all the metallics in your butterfly project. The butterfly is my special symbol so this resonates very much. I'm a multi-media artist and jewelry maker. It's been such a pleasure finding your creative place today. :o)
